Ferrari 250 LWB California Spider tops ModaMiami auction at $7,045,000

It’s fair to say that the US auction calendar has been off to an incredible start in 2026, with both RM Sotheby’s and Mecum already posting some incredible sale results in January – specifically those with a prancing horse on the bonnet. RM’s ModaMiami auction, taking place just ahead of the concours at the Biltmore, and sitting a week ahead of The Amelia.

Top honours went to a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider by Scaglietti, which brought $7,045,000, just above the car’s lower estimate. Continuing some of the themes we’ve been seeing in the earlier 2026 auctions, a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari followed at $6,880,000 – an auction benchmark for the model, excluding the $7m paid for the final model paid at a charity auction when the car was new in 2016.

Modern hypercars and limited-production derivatives formed a significant part of the catalogue. A 2024 Bugatti Bolide sold for $4,955,000, a 2017 Pagani Huayra Roadster achieved $3,415,000 and a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT realised $3,305,000 – yet another auction record. The appetite for track-focused machinery was also evident in the $2,205,000 result for a 2020 McLaren Senna GTR ‘LM 25’ by Lanzante.

Notable no-sale results included the 1967 Ford GT40 MkI, as well as the 1966 Porsche 906 was left unsold. By contrast, a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTS made $2,590,000 and a 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S brought $1,875,000, both broadly in line with recent market expectations.
